This collection is deeply relatable to any member of today’s society. Living in today’s world, it is terribly difficult to not go through a state of blindness to how wonderful life truly is. I truly support the idea that all individuals should take a fragment of their time and allow themselves to re-evaluate their lives and be able to appreciate all that they are missing while trying to keep up with the current standard as set by their peers and competitors. The strongest selection in this compilation is the fictional test, “Today”. The reader first reads what life is like today, including details that any functioning member of our current society could relate to. After a pause between the two halves, the poem then shifts and focuses on what generations before us experienced and how it is different from how people live in the present times. This allows for the reader to contemplate what else may have been different in the past, and if maybe the world truly was more developed before our modern day technology and styles. The reason I wrote a poem for this piece was to test my skills with poetic devices and language, as I struggled earlier in the term with poetry and crafting my own work. If I were to write another multi genre collection, I would attempt to come up with a different theme, one that would be easier to compile writing prompt ideas for as I had a tough time thinking of topics to write about. But, I did learn through this project that crafting your own pieces is much more difficult than writing the first ideas that populate your mind, and definitely not an ‘easier way out’ than searching for works done by others and incorporating them with your own thesis. The most difficult test to write was undoubtedly the non-fiction, as I had trouble finding an idea for a topic. This was the last piece I wrote, so my strongest ideas had already been used to represent the other genres and was left until the end. I now have a greater appreciation for those who write massive pieces and stories, and have learned through this project that it is much harder than it seems. On a final note, I would like to encourage everyone to take a figurative step back from the rush of daily life and have a good look at you life and what is important to you; you never know what sort of impact on your outlook this could have.
